FAQ

If you can't find an answer to your question, just ask me.

Can you make me an __x__?

Usually. Contact me to talk about it and I'll let you know. In the event I can't do it now, maybe your question will inspire me to learn a new skill!

Do you do custom work?

Absolutely. Contact me to discuss your project. If you want some examples of my custom pieces, you can find them here.

Where is this stuff made?

It's all hand-made in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. Unless I take something on vacation with me, then it would be made wherever I'm on vacation. I once worked on a piece while on a train, so that was made in three provinces.

How long does it take to arrive after I order?

Well, if your item is listed as "in-stock" then it should ship within a couple days, and then Canada Post says it should be 2 business days after that. If you ordered something that has "0" in stock, then I have to make it to order. Which could take a couple days to upwards of 2 weeks. If you want to know specifically, please send me an email before you order and I can give you a more specific estimate.

What currency are you selling in?

Canadian dollars.

I live in Canada; do I have to pay tax?

No, applicable taxes (if any) are included in the listing price. Your order receipt will break out/show the taxes (if applicable).

I live in the USA, will I have to pay duty/taxes?

I'm sorry, but I'm really not sure. That will be up to your respective state authorities.

Can you ship to ____?

Sure. But based on the engine that's hosting my site I have to look up shipping individually and then add it as an option. So, if you want to order something, but your country isn't listed as a shipping option, just send me an email and I'll add it ASAP.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is $15 to Canadian addresses and $30 to the USA. Subject to change.

Why is shipping so expensive?

As a small business, I can't get the great rates that the huge online retailers can. If it makes you feel better, my shipping prices are set such that I will always pay more to ship than you will pay me in shipping. If not, I'll refund what you overpay!

What's the difference between sterling silver and fine silver?

Sterling silver is the standard metal in most jewellery. It's made of 925/1000 parts silver, with the remaining 75/1000 usually being copper. The copper makes the sterling silver much harder, but also means that it can tarnish over time. Fine silver is 999/1000 pure silver. The absence of copper makes fine silver a lot softer but also means it doesn't tarnish.

Is your work silver plated?

No. My work is solid silver. Occasionally I may get a small finding in that's silver plated when it's not available in solid silver, but I'll be sure to clearly label any piece where that happens.

Why isn't your work stamped with a purity (.925, 14k, etc) stamp?

Well, it's an instance of me following the Precious Metals Marking Act when not too many people in the trade do. Technically it's illegal to stamp purity on a piece without also adding a registered maker's mark. I'm looking into getting a registered makers mark, but it'll take about 18 months and moderate expense to register.

How do I care for my silver jewellery?

This question comes up a lot, especially with my shadowboxes. I suggest checking out Jeffrey Herman's caring for silver advice.
